NotesVALUABLE FREEHOLD BEERHOUSE IN MORLEY Mears T. S. BEST & HARRIS will offer for Sale by Public Auction.
on Monday the 15th day of June, 1885, at Six for seven o'clock in the Evening, at the Royal Hotel, Morley, in the parish of Batley, in the county of York (subject to the Common Form Conditions of Sale of the Bradford Incorporated Law Society, and to such special conditions as will be then produced), the Property comprised in the following particulars, viz. :--
ALL that Parcel of LAND, part of an allotment of ALL land situate upon Low Common, in Morley, in the said county of York, containing about 530 square yards more or less. And also all that BEERHOUSE, formerly known as the Railway Inn, but now as the Gilroyd Hotel, formerly in the occupation of James Rawnsly, but now of Joseph Bannister. And also all those two COTTAGES or DWELLING-HOUSES erected and built upon other part of the said parcel of land, and now in the occupation of George Hill and another.
The above property is situate in the busiest part of Morley, being in Albert Road, and affords great advantages to a purchaser. There is an excellent supply of town's water. The valuation is not included in the sale, but will have to be paid for by the purchaser.
For further particulars apply to the Auctioneers, at their Offices, Bridge Street to Mr William Murgatroyd, Springwell Brewery, Bolton Road, Bradford; or at our Offices, 35, Kirkgate. Bradford. 20th May, 1835. NEILL & BROADBENT, solicitors. The above is from a newspaper sale notice, Leeds Intelligencer dated 1885. On the Lumley map 1863 in Morley Library the Railway Tavern is marked in the same location as the Gilroyd hotel, it is alos marked on the 1864 OS map. One could probably assume that the Railway Inn mentioned in the above newspaper notice and the Railway Tavern refer to the same pub. F: Kelly 1897. The pub closed on 23 December 1908, licensee was J.Moore. Premises demolished in June 1969. The site of the hotel/pub appears to be where the office brick building for what was Mone Brothers is located.
